People's Choice Award - Honorable Mention

Altrusa Club of Oshkosh - Art in the Garden - Oshkosh, Wisconsin

In 2016 Good Feathered Friends was invited to display some of our work at  the Paine Art Center during the John James Audubon Birds of America exhibit.  What an honor to be able to display one's art in an exhibition of an acclaimed bird artist like Audubon.  It was awfully exciting to set a piece of my art on the floor next to an Audubon piece as work was being loaded into the gallery to hang.

Art shows that we attend are generally all juried shows in Wisconsin.  This keeps us busy enough without considering shows outside of Wisconsin or during the winter months when there are not outdoor shows in our area.  During these "down times" there are birds to photograph and feathers to carve and framing to be done.  It all keeps us busy!

Few artists  create art or enters  an art show for the sole chance to win an award.  However, it is an added bonus when one does win an award, particularly when there are so many nice pieces of art a juror is able to chose from.   When I look around and see so much art that is worthy of an award, I am always humbled and surprised that I was the juror's choice.  As an artist, it is gratifying and affirming to win an award as it provides a message that one's work stands out in a crowd and is meaningful to others.

2016

While the 1st Place Ribbon went to someone  else based on the the vote's from people attending this show, we were thrilled to win an Award of Excellence for our 3 entries: Snowy of Freedom (Snowy Owl); Reflections on Mothering (Loon with baby on its back); and Wings over Elbow Lake (Bald Eagles).  And, that all three pieces sold at the competition was an added prize.  Snowy of Freedom and Reflections on Mothering both were purchased by the art committee of Evergreen Community in Oshkosh.  They hang near the entry to the dining room.  The mated pair of eagles pictured in Wings over Elbow Lake was purchased by an individual as a gift to her husband who loved eagles

Receiving a purchase award is quite an honor!  A judge awards all the prizes and decided which ONE piece of artwork would be purchased for Mosaic Arts, Inc.  The Great Blue Heron is what the juror chose.
